Supervisor Bart Shellenhamer reported that he, Manager David Blechertas and Golf Course Manager Sam Risteff met with Middletown International Airport about a Blue Angels air show and proposed using part of the Sunset Golf Course as a paid viewing area. The board discussed closing portions of the course for the event, offering parking and spectator space on the 1st and 2nd fairways, opening the clubhouse and inviting food trucks, and providing sanitation stations and staffing.
Blechertas told the board the airport expects over 15,000 participants. The concept the board discussed was to close the golf course on dates cited in the minutes and offer a flat per-vehicle fee for parking and viewing; the clubhouse, bar and restaurant would remain open. Board members agreed to move forward with more formal plans and staff-level planning and approvals.
Minutes include inconsistent references to event dates (the minutes reference March 24–25 and also May 24–25). Staff was directed to develop a formal plan and clarify the correct event dates, logistics, staffing needs and any required permits or insurance before final approval by the board.
