Londonderry board approves routine expenditures, hears bridge and road updates

The Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors on Aug. 20 approved several routine expenditures and heard engineering updates on local infrastructure projects.
Financial and procurement actions approved unanimously included purchase and installation of two laptop computers from Omega Systems for $3,485.72 (one charged to the general fund and one to the golf fund), Pay Application #2 to Lauer Construction for $137,523.30 for work on the Sunset Golf Clubhouse Project, and a letter of support to Hope Within Ministries for a 2025–2026 Dauphin County Local Share Grant. The board also approved payment of invoices and open purchase orders presented by Treasurer Brian Marchuck.
Resolutions authorizing disposal of obsolete playground equipment (Resolution 2025‑24) and a frozen drink machine from the golf course snack bar (Resolution 2025‑25) were both approved. Members discussed the Township Building Renovation Project’s final accounting: Blue Scope Construction’s bid award was $475,000 while the total project cost reached $501,000, a 5% overrun netted against approximately $354,000 in American Rescue Plan funds.
Township Engineer Mike Wood provided project updates. He said the Zion/Gingrich Bridge superstructure replacement has been delayed by weather; staff discussed narrowing the bridge width to meet barrier standards but the Board recommended retaining a 23‑foot width. A depression on the newly paved Swatara Creek Road at Newberry Road and 950 Swatara Creek Road was reported and the contractor has been contacted to make repairs. Wood also reported that work continues on connections for Pine Manor MHP to public sewer and water; a revised Notice to Connect was sent for the River House property and Mr. Blechertas said 1801 E. Harrisburg Pike has been connected to public sewer. The manager also said he reminded Amazon that a post‑construction traffic study is due, and the Board discussed driver routing and signage on School House Road.
The meeting concluded with a non‑agenda comment from resident George Studenroth about a TV news report, and adjournment at 8:20 p.m.
