Representatives of the Harrisburg Rugby Club presented the board Sept. 2 with a multi-year plan to develop playing fields and facilities at Sunset Park, and township staff raised questions about stormwater compliance and project timelines.
Eric Kovac, vice-chair of the Harrisburg Rugby Club, described the club’s history and presented a 3-year plan for the Perseverance Lodge Fields that would clear debris and tree stumps, remove an existing soil pile, regrade the site, construct a wastewater holding pond to support irrigation, develop parking and walkways, install floodlighting and build a clubhouse with locker rooms and showers. Kovac said the club will provide a more precise timeline after its engineer completes plans.
Township Manager David Blechertas told the board the project requires significant stormwater management work and observed the club is "several years past due on the goals that were committed to the Township," signaling expectations the board will press for firm schedules and compliance documentation before approving subsequent approvals or permits.
No formal approvals for construction were taken at the meeting; the presentation established the outline of proposed work and identified stormwater and permitting as the next areas for detailed review.
