Londonderry Township supervisors approve equipment purchase, engineering contract and park use; authorize property auction

Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors took a series of unanimous votes at its June 3, 2024 regular meeting that affect operations, facility planning and community events.
Manager David Blechertas asked the Board to approve the purchase of a Cub Cadet Pro Z 960S mower from Lawn and Golf Supply Co., Inc. under CoStars Contract #4400028334 for $13,507.79. Blechertas said staff reviewed three quotes and recommended the middle quote for performance and longevity, with the cost split 80% to parks and 20% to the golf course. The motion to approve, moved by Mel Hershey and seconded by Anna Dale, passed on a roll-call vote with all five supervisors voting "Aye."
The Board also approved hiring Gorksi Engineering Inc. for design services for an administration building renovation at a cost of $29,300, contingent on solicitor approval. Blechertas told the Board Gorksi offered efficient, flexible options and could provide both design and construction under previously bid-price rates, which staff said could eliminate the need for a separate construction bid. The motion (moved by Anna Dale; seconded by Mel Hershey) carried unanimously.
Jessica Stoddard, representing the Victim Witness Assistance Program, described plans for a public 40th-anniversary fundraiser at Sunset Park on Sept. 5 with three bands, food trucks and ticketed activities; invited guests will include local law enforcement and county officials. The Board raised concerns about restroom access and electrical supply; members required the event organizer to provide portable restrooms and generators at the organizer's expense. The Board granted free use of Sunset Park for the event, contingent on solicitor approval (motion moved by Ron Kopp; seconded by Mike Geyer; unanimous).
Other procedural approvals included acceptance of the treasurer's report and open purchase orders for the month ending May 31, codification of Ordinances 2024-01 through 2024-05 by General Code not to exceed $5,260, and cancellation of the June 19 workshop meeting. Each of those motions passed unanimously.
The Board authorized Resolution 2024-11 to dispose of township property through public bidding, including plans to auction a township ambulance and a 1997 GMC. During discussion staff mentioned a proposed starting bid of $1,000 and a reserve of $10,000 for the ambulance and a modest starting price for the mower. The motion to approve the disposition procedure (moved by Ron Kopp; seconded by Mike Geyer) passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Board chair Bart Shellenhamer noted earlier on the agenda an item about third-party services and a possible action tied to the same Resolution number was tabled without discussion; later in the meeting the Board used Resolution 2024-11 to authorize property disposition. The solicitor will prepare and review required documents for contingent approvals.
The meeting adjourned after addressing the items on the agenda and after noting the Board's authority to hold executive sessions when permitted by statute.
