Londonderry Township supervisors approve HVAC roof work, audit contract and safety markings; table renovation proposal

Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors met on Nov. 20, 2024, in Middletown and unanimously approved a set of routine contracts and purchases while tabling a larger renovation proposal for further review.
Township Manager David Blechertas asked the supervisors to table a proposal from Gorski Engineering for renovation of the township administration building at an estimated cost of $488,570 so contract details could be finalized; the board voted to table the item until the Dec. 2 meeting (motion by Ron Kopp, seconded by Anna Dale). The manager said contract terms still needed to be worked out before approval.
The board approved an additional change in scope to an existing contract with Gannett Fleming covering HVAC work at Sunset Golf Course to include roof design, bidding and construction oversight, at a cost not to exceed $23,900. Blechertas told supervisors that the roof’s deteriorating condition and the efficiencies of coordinating both projects supported the change. The motion was moved by Mike Geyer, seconded by Anna Dale, and carried 5-0.
Supervisors appointed Scott Merchlinski to fill a vacancy on the Zoning Hearing Board to complete a term ending Dec. 31, 2024. The appointment was moved by Anna Dale and seconded by Chairman Bart Shellenhamer and carried 5-0.
The board renewed an annual contract with Brown Plus for township financial and audit services, reflecting a 4% increase over 2024. The contract amounts shown in the minutes were $221,440 for the general fund and $105,000 for the golf course fund. The renewal passed on a 5-0 vote (motion by Mike Geyer, seconded by Mel Hershey).
To address safety concerns at the East Harrisburg Pike and Geyer’s Church Road intersection, the board approved purchasing four 12-foot turning arrows from Alpha Space Control, LLC for $1,554. Manager Blechertas said PennDOT regulations made this a township expense; the motion passed 5-0 (moved by Ron Kopp, seconded by Anna Dale).
The treasurer presented bills and open purchase orders for early November showing $32,710.11 in the general fund and $7,668.74 in the golf course fund (grand total $40,378.85); the board approved payment of those items by a 5-0 vote (motion by Anna Dale, seconded by Mike Geyer).
Solicitor Jim Diamond reported nothing to report. Under new business, Anna Dale noted an upcoming Capital Region annual dinner in Harrisburg and said a Safer grant opportunity could benefit the Londonderry Fire Department. Vice-Chair Ron Kopp publicly thanked the Londonderry Fire Department and other responding departments for their response to a farm fire on his property. Manager Blechertas also reported that three properties on Route 230 had recently connected to the township sewer system.
There were no public comments recorded. The board adjourned at 7:29 p.m.
