Londonderry forwards draft data center zoning overlay to Planning Commission
Summary

The Londonderry Board of Supervisors voted Jan. 6 to forward a draft zoning amendment that would add a Data Center definition and replace the Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) overlay with a Data Center overlay in Chapter 27.
Codes/Zoning Officer Duane Brady told the board there has been growing local interest in data centers following announcement of Microsoft’s deal involving Three Mile Island, prompting the township to proactively draft zoning language. Brady asked the board to send the draft to the Planning Commission for review and editing, and the board approved the referral unanimously.
Board discussion touched on how other central Pennsylvania municipalities are handling data center inquiries, special exception processes and potential commercial growth impacts. No final zoning changes were adopted; the action routes the draft to the Planning Commission for further review and any edits before public advertising or hearing steps.
The referral does not authorize any project approvals; it begins the municipal review process for possible future ordinance amendments.
