Boca Raton defers review of landlord plans for performing arts center to Oct. 21

Mayor Singer opened a special meeting of the City of Boca Raton on Sept. 23, 2024, saying the purpose of the session was to consider Resolution 97-2024, which concerns landlord plans submitted by the Center for Arts and Innovation, Inc., for a performing arts center and redevelopment of the amphitheater.
The clerk read the resolution title into the record as presented: “A resolution of the City of Boca Raton considering the approval of the landlord plans submitted by the Center for Arts and Innovation, Inc., in connection with the development of a performing arts center and the redevelopment of the amphitheater as required by the preconstruction and development agreement entered into between the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency, the City of Boca Raton, and the Center for Arts and Innovation, Inc., on 10/12/2022.”
Mayor Singer opened a public hearing on the measure but encouraged anyone who wished to speak to attend the continued session. When no one came forward at this meeting, the council moved to postpone further consideration to a special meeting scheduled for Oct. 21, 2024, at the conclusion of the CRA meeting. A motion to continue the matter was made and seconded on the record. The mayor called for a voice vote, multiple members said “aye,” and the mayor declared, “Without objection, we are now adjourned.”
No public comments were recorded at this session. The council did not take a roll-call vote on the resolution itself; instead, members voted by voice to continue consideration. The resolution and the preconstruction and development agreement dated Oct. 12, 2022, remain on the agenda for the Oct. 21 special meeting, where the public hearing is expected to resume.
The meeting record shows the agencies named in the resolution: the City of Boca Raton, the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency and the Center for Arts and Innovation, Inc. No funding amounts, amendments or formal approvals were adopted at the Sept. 23 session; those items, if proposed, will be considered at the continued meeting.
