Downtown manager outlines Meisner Park improvements, water stations and digital-kiosk plan

Ruby Riley, downtown manager for the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency, gave a downtown project update on Oct. 7, detailing repairs, new installations and procurement steps for digital amenities.
Riley said staff has repaired an oversized, vandalized Adirondack chair in Meisner Park and is ordering replacement black tables and chairs to use as backups. She told the CRA the city has submitted a permit for a lighted "Instagrammable" photo-op artwork slated for installation in November and plans a reveal ceremony so the public and commissioners see the installation simultaneously.
The downtown manager said staff is researching water-filling stations after obtaining quotes; the north end of Meisner Park will receive the first filling station, close to an available water connection near the amphitheater, while additional stations will require trenching and jack-and-bore work because the center area uses nonpotable water.
Riley also reported new banner poles installed in the northwest area of Sanborn Square along Federal Highway to give event sponsors a place to hang banners and avoid tying them to trees. She said paver repairs are continuing across downtown zones 4–7 and that recycling bins have been ordered for placement in Meisner Park, Sanborn Square and other downtown locations.
On digital kiosks, Riley said the city has obtained sample agreements from other municipalities and is exploring a piggyback procurement and turnkey operations. She said information-technology support will be required for content management and that traffic-signal power could be necessary; purchasing and legal reviews are ongoing.
Riley used the report to thank the small downtown staff and partners in finance, parking, recreation, municipal services, transit, facilities, code enforcement, police and the city manager’s office for coordinating the work.
The CRA did not take formal action on the downtown items during the meeting. Commissioners asked follow-up questions about repeated theft and vandalism of decorative pieces and heard that staff inventories items and purchases full branded replacement sets when parts disappear.
The board adjourned at 2:12 p.m.
