Residents urge city to step up enforcement on short-term rentals and neighborhood safety

"We're not an HOA and we're getting hammered by these short-term rentals," Wetzler said, asking staff to help shut down repeat violators. Council and staff described enforcement steps: code enforcement staff monitor online listings, perform field checks and respond to complaints, and the city manager pledged follow-up with residents.
Other speakers raised related complaints about business tax receipt processes and perceived inconsistencies in code enforcement outcomes; one speaker asked council members to write letters to the special magistrate overseeing a pending enforcement matter. City Manager Brown and staff said they take proactive steps, including checking Airbnb/VRBO listings and doing neighborhood inspections, and asked residents to provide specific leads to aid enforcement.
