Boca Raton council ratifies $140,000 settlement in Walter Earhart case

The Boca Raton City Council on Sept. 10 voted 5-0 to ratify a negotiated settlement in the litigation styled Walter Earhart v. City of Boca Raton. City Manager Brown told the council the proposed settlement amount is $140,000 and recommended ratification under section 2-3-28 of the city code, which requires council approval for settlements exceeding $50,000.
Brown said staff reviewed a liability and damages analysis prepared by the city’s outside counsel and recommended ratification. The council opened the public hearing on the resolution and, after no public comment, moved to adopt Resolution 93-20-24 authorizing the settlement and directing the city manager to sign the necessary documents.
