The board accepted the resignation of Michael Hughes as GIS Manager of the Franklin County GIS Consortium, effective May 17 (Mr. Hughes' letter dated April 25 set his last day as May 16). Commissioner Jason Miller moved the acceptance and Commissioner David Hester seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The commission unanimously approved hiring Caleb Sherrill as Assistant County Engineer effective June 12, 2023 at an annual salary at Step 5 ($73,209.60), following County Engineer Jason Baggett’s recommendation. The board also approved hiring Michael Hall as a part‑time temporary Highway Department employee at $14 per hour, effective May 1, 2023.
In sheriff’s office matters, the commission approved the permanent hire of Nathan Walker Bohannon as a full‑time deputy (effective April 30, 2023), approved Family Medical Leave for Courthouse Deputy Steve Bullion (effective March 23, 2023), and approved catastrophic and Family Medical Leave for Corrections Officer/Dispatcher Matt Waldrep while his mother receives cancer treatment. To cover a deployment absence, the board also approved hiring Bobby Swinney as a temporary Corrections Officer/Dispatcher effective May 3, 2023.
