The Carroll County Board voted March 10 to appoint Michael O’Brien as Carroll County State’s Attorney for a term running March 23 through Nov. 30, 2026. The motion to approve the appointment carried with six members voting yes and Chair Julie Bickelhaupt abstaining.
County Administrator Jachnicki told the board that the Carroll County Republican Central Committee submitted Michael O’Brien as its choice for the vacancy. Judy Fitzpatrick moved to approve the appointment; Susan Jacobs seconded. Roll call recorded Jacobs, Fitzpatrick, Melinda Appel, William Iske, Christopher Flikkema and Jason Beyers voting aye; Chair Julie Bickelhaupt abstained. The motion carried.
The meeting lasted about four minutes; after the vote, County Board Member Melinda Appel moved to adjourn, a motion seconded by Judy Fitzpatrick, and the board adjourned at 4:04 p.m. The clerk’s minutes note the next meeting is scheduled for March 19, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. Minutes were submitted by Amy R.
