Cheatham County legislative body approves retiree health coverage, contracts and an EMS property purchase

Cheatham County commissioners met Sept. 15 in the General Sessions Courtroom and approved several administrative and operational items advancing county services and infrastructure.
Key votes included adopting a resolution (Resolution 9) to provide county-paid individual health insurance to employees who retire with 30 or more years of service and who are under age 65; the resolution requires annually certifying that a retiree is not covered by another employer-provided plan and makes the coverage available only for employees who retire on or after Jan. 1, 2026.
The commission also approved a set of contracts and amendments under Mayor Kerry McCarver's purview: an agreement with Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. for subdivision regulation modernization and planning services; a generator maintenance agreement with Clarke PowerGen; a Securus Technologies amendment addressing video/voice rates and recording storage terms for jail communications; and a planning-services contract with the Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC). Those approvals were recorded as part of Resolution 10 and passed by roll-call votes.
The county attorney presented and the body approved a resolution authorizing purchase of real property from the Cheatham County Board of Education for land currently used by the EMS station; the County Mayor was authorized to execute documents necessary to complete the transaction. Commissioners also confirmed Mayor McCarver's appointment of Mike Russell to replace Bill Herbert Sr. on the E‑911 Board through Dec. 31, 2025.
Other business: the commission authorized the surplus of two highway department items, approved a consent calendar of notaries, and scheduled a December special recognition to honor local groups that opposed TVA plans in the county. The meeting adjourned at 7:07 p.m.
