Cheatham County approves budget amendments, rezoning, capital purchases and appointments

At its Sept. 16 regular session, the Cheatham County Legislative Body unanimously approved multiple budget amendments across funds, a rezoning request, capital purchases including metal detectors for the courthouse, several contracts authorized for the mayor, and various appointments and routine measures.
The Cheatham County Legislative Body met Sept. 16 in Ashland City and approved a package of routine and fiscal measures, including budget amendments, an approved rezoning request, capital improvements and a set of mayoral contract authorizations.
Budget Committee recommendations approved by the commission included amendments to the County General Fund (items such as rural fire tax and circuit court allocations), transfers to Highway and Bridge Maintenance funded by Sports Gaming Privilege Tax, and Central Cafeteria Fund adjustments; all recorded budget votes passed on roll-call votes 11-0. The highway/public works fund also received several approvals for maintenance and administration expenses.
The commission approved a requested zone change for Chris Conners (Map 47, Parcel 9.02) from C2 to Agriculture; no members of the public spoke for or against the rezoning during an advertised public hearing, and the motion passed 11-0.
Capital Improvement Committee items included approval to purchase and install courthouse metal detectors for $4,789.99 and a new door for the Veterans Service Officer office for $2,133.65; both were approved on roll-call votes (11-0). The commission also authorized surplusing a 2023 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor and receiving insurance recovery into the County General Fund.
County Mayor Kerry McCarver was authorized to sign several contracts and agreements, including Integrity Design and Coding software for probation, a Greater Nashville Regional Council planning contract, an Insight contract for five Flock cameras for Pegram and a memorandum of understanding with Pegram on those cameras, and a Tennessee Alcohol Monitoring Systems agreement.
County Attorney Michael Bligh presented and the commission approved a resolution establishing specifications and policy for acceptance of county roads, and another resolution waiving the county wheel tax for volunteer firefighters; both passed 11-0. The commission also handled routine appointments and recognitions, including the appointment of Spencer Hamlin to the Library Board of Trustees.
All recorded roll-call votes cited in the minutes show unanimous approval on the listed items; motions were moved and seconded as recorded in the minutes and the meeting adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
