Commission approves Safe Haven Baby Box and EMA maintenance upgrades; denies Health Department canopy

At its July 15 regular session, the Cheatham County Legislative Body approved several capital items from its Capital Improvements committee, including the installation of a Safe Haven Baby Box at Pleasant View Fire Station 1 and maintenance upgrades for Emergency Management Agency facilities.
The Safe Haven Baby Box installation will cost $21,000; the Town of Pleasant View committed $5,000 and the county will fund the remaining $16,000. Commissioner Calton Blacker said Pleasant View will cover ongoing operational costs including maintenance. The motion passed by roll call vote 11–0 (one absent).
The commission also approved maintenance upgrades for EMA in the amount of $68,500; County Mayor Kerry McCarver clarified bids will still need to be approved and the capital improvements committee said bid approvals will follow. That motion passed by roll call vote 11–0 (one absent).
After discussion, commissioners voted to deny a proposal for a double canopy at the Health Department; the initial motion and second were withdrawn and a motion to deny was approved by roll call vote.
Leadership Cheatham County later thanked the commission for approving the Safe Haven Baby Box during announcements. County staff will coordinate funding transfers and any bid process required for the EMA work.
