Cheatham County adopts updated Occupational Safety & Health Program Plan and designates a safety director

On July 15, Cheatham County commissioners voted to adopt an updated Occupational Safety and Health Program Plan intended to align county workplace safety practices with state standards.
The resolution, introduced by County Attorney Michael Bligh and supported by a written Plan of Operation included in the meeting packet, designates the county’s human-resources director (Shelly Carney) as the Safety Director of Occupational Safety and Health. The plan lays out responsibilities for inspections, employee training, accident reporting, recordkeeping and variance procedures. Commissioners approved the resolution by roll call, 11–0 (one absent).
The Plan of Operation references state TOSH rules and requires the Safety Director to file annual reports with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and to coordinate training and preventive maintenance. The packet also includes appendices listing county work locations, notification language to employees, a budget statement for the program and accident-reporting procedures.
County Attorney Michael Bligh told commissioners that the update reflects best practices and state guidance. The measure passed without opposition and assigns administrative follow-up to Human Resources for implementation oversight.
