Charleston committee approves Microsoft security add‑on, about $88,966 for remaining contract period

The City of Charleston finance committee on Monday adopted Resolution 26‑19 to add Microsoft Enterprise Mobility and Security licensing to the city's existing Microsoft 365 accounts.
Mister Michaud told the committee the add‑on will do more than the city's expired free product: where the existing system detected and alerted staff to suspicious logins, the new product will detect and prevent unauthorized logins from non‑city devices. "It will require any non city owned device... to be authorized by our IS department and only those authorized devices will be able to log in," he said.
He said the price for the remaining portion of the current contract year is $22,243 and the full upcoming fiscal year is $66,722, for an overall total of $88,965.50 covering the remaining 1.5 years of the contract. The committee voted to approve the resolution after a motion to adopt.
