Committee approves 20 mph speed limit on Garvin Avenue

The chair said she had observed speeding and noted there were no speed-limit signs in the area: "I can't believe people are speeding on it," she said. She added that Councilman Overstreet had worked with the community association and neighborhood group on the request and that lowering the posted limit would "give the police a little bit more legs to stand on."
Committee members offered no additional substantive amendments. A motion to pass Bill 8064 was made and seconded. The chair called for the vote; members voiced "aye" and the chair declared "the ayes have it," approving the new speed limit.
The bill amends the traffic control map and related city code references as noted in the ordinance language read into the record. The committee did not record a roll-call tally; the chair stated that the ayes carried the motion. Implementation will require updating posted signs and notification to the police department for enforcement.
