CHARLESTON — The City of Charleston Finance Committee unanimously adopted three related measures on Oct. 20 to replenish EMS gear and fund repairs to a damaged fire truck.
Mr. Michaud presented Resolution 25‑100 to buy ambulance equipment from Stryker Medical — including two powered cots, a Lucas chest compression system, two Lifepak 35 monitors/defibrillators and stair chairs — for a total of $202,424.53. "Total purchase price for all of these is $202,424.53 and, which is part of ... they were budgeted this fiscal year. These are under budget," Mr. Michaud said. The committee approved the purchase on voice vote.
Relatedly, Resolution 25‑101 moves funds in the FY25–26 general fund to pay for repairs to a fire truck damaged in July. Mr. Michaud said the repair estimate is $142,962 and that the insurer is expected to reimburse $92,962, leaving the city with a $50,000 deductible share. He said the vehicle is still under warranty and must be repaired by a Pierce‑authorized service provider to preserve that warranty.
Committee members asked whether the damage was avoidable and whether additional training would follow. Mr. Michaud stated the collision was driver error, and a committee member said the department plans department‑wide retraining and renewed emphasis on vehicle spotting and backing procedures.
Resolution 25‑102 authorizes the city to enter an agreement with Atlantic Emergency Solutions (described in the presentation as a Pierce‑certified repair facility) to perform the approved repairs to Engine 455. Mr. Michaud said AES is the appropriate vendor to maintain the warranty. The committee approved the contract on voice vote.
The three actions were presented and adopted in sequence; transcript records the motions and voice votes but does not contain a roll‑call tally.
