Kossuth County veterans commission elects officers, approves minutes and backs director’s conference attendance

The Kossuth County Commission of Veterans Affairs met Feb. 12, 2026, in Algona and elected Troy Brandt as chairperson/secretary and Kevin Molsberry as vice chair, approved prior meeting minutes and voted to support the county veterans service officer’s attendance at a May conference if time and resources permit.

The meeting opened at 4:45 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. Roll call recorded Troy Brandt, Kevin Molsberry, Gary Forsythe and James Hartshorn (participating by phone); Commissioner John Hyink was absent.

The commission approved the previous month’s minutes on a motion by Kevin Molsberry, seconded by Gary Forsythe. A subsequent motion by Molsberry to appoint Troy Brandt as chairperson/secretary was seconded by Forsythe and passed with recorded ayes from Kevin Molsberry, Gary Forsythe and James Hartshorn; John Hyink was absent. Brandt then moved that Molsberry serve as vice chair; Forsythe seconded and the motion passed with the same recorded votes.

Under new business, a motion by Molsberry to support Director Daniel D. Green attending the May conference if time and resources were limited was seconded by Brandt and passed with no recorded opposition. Commissioners also directed staff to examine metrics for part-time personnel, to plan additional outreach events, and to collect information for public-service advertising on the county cable channel and other outlets.

The meeting adjourned at 6:18 p.m.; the minutes were signed on March 12, 2026.

Attendance and actions recorded in the minutes indicate routine governance steps (minutes approval and officer elections) and a procedural endorsement to allow the director to attend a training conference if resources permit. The minutes do not record floor debate or dissent on those motions.
