Clint Boggs, chief of staff for the City of Chillicothe, updated council on the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Bridge Street corridor project between Riverside Street and the Chillicothe Mall.
Boggs said ODOT’s work includes adding a northbound lane, improving southbound lanes, full pavement replacement in the interchange area, and new pedestrian infrastructure including a shared-use path connecting to the existing bike path. He estimated the total project cost at about $19.5 million and said substantial interchange pavement replacement is targeted for completion before Thanksgiving 2027.
Boggs explained that significant utility relocations are already finished and listed recent visible work: sidewalk and shared path additions, rail painting, a roundabout near Walmart on Stewart Road, and a connector behind the North Plaza/Marietta Road retail area. He warned that, beginning March 9, all southbound lanes will be closed from Stewart Road to North Plaza Boulevard and the High Street on-ramp (104 High Street) to eastbound 35 will be closed per ODOT modeling to reduce unsafe conditions.
Boggs recommended residents consult ODOT’s project page for detour routes and FAQs and said the city will post links on its website. He offered to provide contact information for ODOT and said project updates are also being shared on the city’s social media channels.
