Cloud County health officials report strong baby-shower turnout and say WIC may need county funds amid federal shutdown

Tonya Sulanka, Cloud County Health Department Administrator, told the Board of County Commissioners that 51 people attended a recent community baby shower representing 15 families, and that 24 participants from 13 community partners helped run the event. Sulanka said the department will participate in the NCK Medical Center Health Fair on Oct. 18, offering flu, pneumonia and tetanus vaccines and an outreach booth on emergency preparedness.
Sulanka and Julie Redden provided an update on Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services and described service interruptions related to the federal government shutdown. Sulanka said the department “may need to use some Health Department funding” to maintain services; the minutes state the board approved that use. She also reported that job descriptions for department roles are in process and that grant applications are due Oct. 15.

The board did not take additional budget action in the meeting beyond approving the department’s request to use internal funds if necessary.
