Health collections rise; county reviews road and bridge work and approves a waterline crossing

County department heads updated the Cloud County Board of Commissioners on routine operations and local projects during the Aug. 18 meeting.
Health Department Administrator Tonya Sulanka reported Medicare collections of $35,190.60 for the first quarter and $42,937.14 for the second quarter. Sulanka said Home Health Aides have begun work and promoted a Community Baby Shower scheduled for Oct. 11 at First United Methodist Church; a diaper and baby-wipe drive to benefit the Baby Shower, Catholic Charities and the Resource Center runs through Oct. 1. Sulanka also raised the possibility of the Health Department providing pre-employment drug testing; the board made no decision during the meeting.
Highway/Weed Administrator Rod Michaud reported that cold mix is expected soon and that the bridge replacement on 110th south of Wagon should be completed this week; Trail Road and 110th right-of-ways have been marked and the county will borrow a road broom from Washington County. The board conducted an afternoon road tour of bridge project sites, including the Ross Doyen Memorial Bridge site, the 110th replacement south of Wagon and the Camp Road replacement south of Glasco.
On routine business the board unanimously approved Transfer 2025-0818-1 to correct a $10 posting error (debit Health Receipts, credit Grants/Reimbursement Expenses for receipt 31871). The board also approved a Request and Petition from Tom Foshee for a waterline crossing at 160th and Gold Roads.
Sheriff Ken Davis said the department will proceed with vehicle replacements discussed previously; the board recorded the resignations of Sheriff Deputies Brian Mills (effective July 14) and James Wilson (effective Aug. 15). The board approved payroll totaling $194,118.26, with fund-level distributions noted in the minutes.
