During public comment at the Aug. 25 Cloud County Board meeting, CJ Tobald expressed concerns about solid-waste fees after the county moved to a new billing system. The Board told Tobald that vacant land will not be billed, residential properties with a building value under $5,000 will not be billed, and that the county will provide a process to appeal any charge.
Mike Hake, Solid Waste Director, reported operational details for the Recycling Center, stating the facility sold 42,980 pounds of cardboard and 43,230 pounds of sorted office paper; the meeting record lists prices as $80 per ton for cardboard and $140 per ton for sorted office paper. Hake also said the Transfer Station is waiting on delivery of a skid steer and that the City has been removing concrete from its loads to the landfill.
The Board did not record any formal vote on the billing questions at the meeting; staff provided the exemptions and said an appeals process will be available for residents who receive unexpected charges.
