The finance committee reviewed an ordinance to purchase a new truck for the health department and questioned operational details and plans for older vehicles.
A health-department representative told the committee the city has used the street department truck in prior years but this will be the health department’s first dedicated truck. “We will be working with CCA, and so they have person that drives the truck, and then they have their workers that pick up everything, whether it's the tires that we find throughout the city and bring them to where they belong,” the representative said.
Council members asked who would operate the vehicle and what would happen to existing trucks. Councilman Oliver told the department he appreciated the service work and asked whether the CCA partnership could be expanded to address broader litter issues across the city. The health-department representative said expansion is possible but financing is the primary constraint.
Next steps: the ordinance for the truck was included among pending legislation the committee forwarded to the full council for consideration.
