Law director says city reached full settlement in gender-discrimination suit; insurer to cover payment

Adam Venti of the law department told the finance committee that the city has reached a full and final release in a gender-discrimination lawsuit.
“Just a complete resolution of the gender discrimination lawsuit that the city had. Full and final release,” Venti said. He stated the initial demand was over $200,000 and that the city is satisfied with the result. Venti said the city’s deductible has already been expended, so the payment will come from the insurance company. He added he would bring legislation to the council once he receives itemization from Tokyo Marine to authorize payment for the deductible.
Committee members asked no further questions and the item was included among pending legislation the committee voted to forward to the full council for consideration.
Next steps: the law department will provide a detailed itemization from the insurer and present legislation to authorize the payment to Tokyo Marine.
