Chief and mayor outline plans for community policing and administration transition

"No council person is going to be missing a community police," Chief Cole said, noting the reassigned officers are already trained in community‑policing work and that coverage may overlap depending on incident needs. Council members requested a safety committee meeting to review the strategy and hours of coverage.
Mayor Eric McDowell, attending his first finance meeting, introduced administration leaders and acknowledged transition challenges from one administration to another. He said staff such as the chief of staff and new law director will help maintain continuity and that he welcomes further briefings to share plans with council and the public.
The committee agreed to schedule a safety committee meeting to review community policing deployment and to invite the chief to present the plan in more detail.
