The Boca Raton City Council on June 11 approved Lynn University's request to place the city seal on the university hockey team's jerseys and used the meeting to evaluate the city manager's early tenure and discuss an orderly transition in the legal office.
City Manager Brown presented the request, noting city code (section 2-1-3) requires council approval for outside use of the city seal. Council members moved and approved the request by voice vote.
Brown also offered a five-month self-assessment of his work since formally starting Jan. 1, highlighting staff empowerment, improved communication and process improvements. "My favorite way of referring to Boca Raton is as beautiful Boca Raton," he said, outlining his emphasis on delegation and staff support. Multiple council members thanked Brown for responsiveness and noted improvements in strategic planning engagement and communications.
Council members also discussed the city attorney's upcoming deferred-retirement (DROP) date and the need for a thoughtful transition. City Attorney Diane Grubb Frieser acknowledged the feedback and said she would work with the council on a smooth transition: "I am very proud of my 25 years of service to the city. I will continue to serve at the pleasure of the council, and I'm happy to work with the council on a transition so that there's a smooth and thoughtful transition," she said.
