At its March 11, 2026, meeting the Charlevoix County Veterans Affairs Committee received a series of staff updates and event-planning items, including staff accreditation, training, community outreach and a planned fundraiser.
The minutes record that the Board of County Commissioners approved county staff member Polly Busman attending the NACVSO (National Association of County Veterans Service Officers) conference June 1–5, 2026. Committee members noted that staff training and accreditation remain priorities.
The record shows that Bryce Dewitt completed NACVSO certification and has applied for NACVSO accreditation. Bryce is scheduled to attend MVAA training in Traverse City March 24–26; the minutes note the training is free and that daily travel would place him three miles outside the overnight-accommodation parameter, an item the committee discussed in the context of travel logistics.
Polly Busman reported that Project Connect is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and she will attend and set up on the preceding Tuesday. The committee also reviewed the Charlevoix County Department of Veteran’s Affairs Veterans Relief Policy and discussed the possibility of emergency applications under that policy (details were not specified in the minutes).
Members discussed planning a shrimp-boil fundraiser for September or October; Polly Busman will coordinate with Becki King to confirm timing relative to the fiscal-year calendar. The February monthly report was shared with the committee; no further details were provided in the minutes. No public comments were recorded and the meeting adjourned at 5:31 p.m.
