Appling County approves $1,029 purchase of live-streaming cameras for meetings

The Appling County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of live-streaming equipment at its April 1 meeting, authorizing $1,029 for three cameras and two tripods.
County Manager Reid Lovett told commissioners he had researched options and noted the board should consider parental-consent procedures if minors were visible on camera. Lovett said the county would likely use YouTube and Facebook as streaming platforms but that additional research into underage participants and platform selection would continue.
Commissioner Randy Sellers moved to approve the purchase and Commissioner Chad Kent seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The equipment purchase is intended to expand public access to meetings through online streaming.
Next steps: Staff will finalize platform selection and develop guidance about minors appearing on live streams before public streaming begins.
