Appling County to receive $1.41 million in state aid for road repairs

Appling County commissioners on May 8 approved acceptance of $1,414,528.49 from the Georgia Department of Transportation to fund local road repairs, County Manager Reid Lovett told the board.
Lovett said the funds require no local match and shared a preliminary list of roads for repairs that includes Spring Branch Road, MLK Drive, Cadillac Drive, Sumner Road, Holmesville Road and Prentis Road. Commissioner Ricky Barnes moved to approve the list and Commissioner Daryl Edwards seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The board also discussed using Transportation Investment Act discretionary funds to complete a related striping project, and Commissioner Randy Sellers asked to change one listed segment from Asbury Road to Deen's Landing Road because of upcoming paving plans on Asbury. The amendment was approved.
County staff noted that GDOT's Local Road Assistance allocation is intended to support resurfacing and related repairs prioritized by the county; Lovett said staff would continue planning and scheduling specific work. No timetable for construction was specified in the meeting records.
