Boca Raton staff outline centennial plans; marketing agreement with Merit Mile to be considered

City staff updated the council on preparations for Boca Raton’s 100th anniversary and said the city selected Merit Mile to lead centennial marketing work; a resolution for an agreement will be on the consent agenda at tomorrow night’s meeting.
Anne Marie Connolly, communications and marketing manager, said a centennial working team formed in August 2023 and the city issued an RFP that produced six bids, three in-person finalists and the selection of Merit Mile based on experience and references. "Your approval of the agreement will initiate the planning and implementation of marketing initiatives for the centennial," staff said; the initial agreement was described as an 18-month term scheduled to begin July 1.
Staff detailed several planned initiatives: a central Centennial website (targeted for a December launch), street banners, vehicle wraps, permanent and temporary public-art installations, pop-up workshops, monthly partner meetings, sponsorship opportunities, and a potential legacy public-art project to be unveiled in 2025. Connolly said the logo unveiling is scheduled for June 24, 2024, and staff pointed to centennial weekend in May 2025 (the city’s incorporation anniversary is May 26, 1925).
The presentation also described "Ode to Boca," a community poetry/place-making program at odetoboca.com that invites residents to submit ZIP-code-based odes; staff said curated submissions would be showcased in public art projects and pop-up events leading into the centennial.
Council will consider the Merit Mile agreement on the consent agenda at the next meeting; staff did not ask for immediate action at the June 10 session.
