Cheatham County approves series of budget amendments, moves funds for library, buildings, EMS and sanitation

The Cheatham County Legislative Body approved a package of budget amendments on Jan. 23 that shifted money among line items across the County General Fund and the Highway/Public Works Fund.
Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts presented the Budget Committee recommendations. Commissioners voted to move reserved funds to purchase library books for South Cheatham Library ($200) and to transfer $120,000 from Sycamore Square–restricted funds to County Buildings for Phase 3 of the Sycamore Square renovation. The body also approved transfers for Veterans' Services ($3,881.80) to purchase two laptops, docking stations and monitors, and multiple transfers to the Ambulance/Emergency Medical Services budget to cover a critical care stipend and other items totaling several thousand dollars. A $4,799 state litter grant reimbursement was moved back to the sanitation education/equipment line.
The Highway/Public Works fund received two small transfers (total $2,800) to cover shortages in legal services and staff development for Highway Administration; those transfers were drawn from unused budgeted funds.
The motions were introduced on the Budget Committee recommendation (motion by Commissioner David Anderson; second by Commissioner Diana Pike Lovell) and approved by roll call for the County General amendments (recorded vote: 10 Yes, 0 No, 1 Absent; one abstention recorded on a specific item). The Highway transfers were approved 11 Yes, 0 No, 1 Absent.
Why it matters: The transfers authorize immediate spending for capital repairs and operating needs — including renovation work at Sycamore Square, equipment for veterans services and ongoing EMS payroll and vehicle maintenance lines — without increasing the county's overall budget, by reallocating existing reserves and grant reimbursements.
