The Duplin County Board of Education met by conference call Feb. 3 because of hazardous road conditions and approved its meeting agenda and a lengthy consent agenda before entering executive session to discuss personnel and confidential student information.
Chair Grama Davis called the meeting to order and led roll call to confirm a quorum. The board had no public comments; Chair Davis noted that, because the session was a conference call, public comments had to be submitted in advance and none were received. Miss Edwards moved to approve the agenda; Mr. Cannon seconded and the vote carried unanimously.
The board then approved the consent agenda on a motion by Mr. Jones and a second by Miss Edwards. Later in the meeting the board voted unanimously to enter an executive session “under general statutes for personnel” and to discuss confidential student information under attorney-client privilege. Miss Edwards moved the motion to go into executive session; Mr. Keenan seconded, and the motion carried.
After returning to open session, Chair Grama Davis called for action on personnel items discussed in executive session. Miss Edwards moved to approve the superintendent's personnel recommendations; Mr. Jones seconded and the motion passed on a unanimous voice vote.
Chair Davis closed the meeting by thanking staff for their work supporting remote instruction and adjourning the session.
