The Duplin County Schools board on Aug. 6 approved a revision to the district calendar after staff cited inclement weather that could affect the opening of schools.
During the superintendent’s report, the superintendent said the administration "recommend[ed] to the board to approve the revised calendar that reflect these 3 changes" and explained the adjustments were tied to recent storm forecasts. The change makes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday optional work days and sets Monday as the first day back for early-college students.
Board members moved and seconded the calendar change; the chair called the voice vote and the motion carried. The superintendent said cabinet members had met to coordinate opening plans and encouraged the community to monitor school communications for any additional updates related to weather.
The revision is intended to give staff time to prepare and to reduce disruption for students and parents as the new school year begins. The board did not discuss additional changes to the academic calendar during the meeting.
The board approved the calendar revision at the meeting and indicated schools are expected to follow the revised schedule beginning next week.
