Duplin County Schools board honors custodians, names Bobby Mobley employee of the quarter and approves personnel actions

The Duplin County Schools Board on Nov. 7 presented a clean-school award to custodial teams from B.F. Grady and Early College and recognized individual custodial staff for their work.
Sandra Davis of Safeco praised custodians as role models for students and called them an essential part of school life while introducing the awards. “They work hard. They love the kids. They love their facilities,” Sandra Davis said as she named specific custodians and thanked them for their service.
The chair also announced that Bobby Mobley, director of transportation, was named employee of the quarter and highlighted his role overseeing bus routes, vehicle maintenance and driver recruitment.
On procedural business the board approved an extensive consent agenda and later, following an executive session that covered personnel and confidential student matters, approved the superintendent’s personnel recommendations on a motion by Miss Edwards with a second; the motions carried by voice votes.
The board approved 2024-25 school improvement plans but noted they will finalize safety components following the executive-session discussion. The superintendent asked the board to move the January meeting from Jan. 7 to Jan. 14, 2025; trustees approved the date change.
The meeting closed with board members exchanging Thanksgiving wishes and adjourning by voice vote.
Actions taken at the meeting included approval of the agenda, acceptance of the consent agenda, authorization to enter executive session for statutorily permitted topics, approval of personnel recommendations and adoption of the school improvement plans as discussed.
