Brent Davis was elected chair of the Duplin County Schools Board of Education for the 2025–26 school year during the board's Dec. 2 business meeting. A board member nominated Davis during the floor nominations, the presiding officer called for a voice/hand-raise vote and the presiding officer announced, “The vote is unanimous.”
The election took place after the board temporarily yielded the gavel to allow nominations to be opened and managed by another presiding member. After the chair vote, the board opened nominations for vice chair; Reginald Keenan was nominated, no additional nominations were offered, and the motion to elect Keenan carried by voice vote.
Board members recorded the nominations and voice votes in open session; roll-call counts were not provided in the public record. The session then continued with committee business and presentations. The board did not provide additional public detail about candidate statements or contested ballots during the meeting.
The newly elected chair and vice chair will serve through the 2025–26 school year; the board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2026.
