Duplin County Schools administers oath to interim superintendent; board approves personnel report

The board opened the meeting with a student prayer. Chair (identified in the record as speaker 2) introduced Cia Thigpen, a rising freshman at East DuPont High School and FCA president at Chinquapin Elementary School, who delivered the invocation and prayed for the family and friends of Dr. Basan.
Earlier in the meeting the chair said the board would strike item 6, the athletic eligibility update, from the agenda. The board then approved the revised agenda by motion, followed by approval of a lengthy consent agenda.
The board moved into executive session under state general statutes to discuss personnel matters, to prevent disclosure of confidential student information, for attorney-client privileged matters, and "to formulate plans by [the] local board of education relating to the emergency response and incidences of school violence," the chair said. After returning to open session, the board voted to approve the personnel report as requested.
The transcript record contains an inconsistency in the name of the person sworn: the public motions and introductions refer to the interim superintendent as "Mr. Tyndall," while the oath text read aloud names "Darren Kendall." The meeting record does not clearly reconcile those names; this article reflects both names as they appear in the meeting transcript.
The board adjourned after approving the personnel and consent items. No members of the public were signed up for public comment at the meeting.
