Members emphasized the value of posting guidance now to prevent contractors and developers from continuing to specify trees (for example, the London plane) known to perform poorly in certain park-strip conditions. The committee also directed staff to include a Firewise section for areas above roughly 5,000 feet and to prioritize posting fire-prone guidance.
The committee expects staff to prepare the posted recommendations and a draft resolution for council consideration; posting the recommended list was treated as a near-term communications task rather than a code change.
