The Aberdeen Town Board on Jan. 13 unanimously approved a one‑year extension for Project Bark’s Building Reuse Grant, moving the closeout date to Feb. 16, 2026.
Planner Lindy Lamielle told the board the extension request was needed because the business had not yet created the full complement of jobs committed under the grant, reporting, “17 of the 26 positions have been created so far.” An unnamed manager representing Project Bark told the board staff would coordinate a tour of the facility on Feb. 5, likely around noon.
Mayor Pro‑tem Bryan Bowles moved to approve the extension; Commissioner Tim Helms seconded and the motion passed 5‑0.
Why it matters: Building Reuse Grants are intended to spur economic development and job creation by reusing existing structures. The extension preserves the town’s ability to close out the grant once the job targets are met or further progress is demonstrated.
Next steps: staff will coordinate the Feb. 5 site tour and continue tracking the business’s hiring progress toward the 26‑position commitment.
