Aberdeen directs clerk to investigate two annexation petitions covering about 72 acres

The Town of Aberdeen Board of Commissioners on Aug. 11 approved two resolutions initiating the annexation review process for two large parcels near town limits.
Staff member (S12) described Resolution 25-15, which requests the clerk investigate sufficiency of a petition submitted by Rosenbaum Land LLC for a 36.36-acre parcel at 425 Glasgow Street (parcel ID 00992165). Later in the meeting staff (S10) presented Resolution 25-16 asking the clerk to investigate a separate petition submitted by Coontz Jones on behalf of McKee Homes for about 35.5 acres south of Legacy Lakes (parcel ID 00049872). Both motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff told the board these investigations are the first procedural step and that the annexations are part of larger development proposals; staff said zoning map amendment requests for the McKee Homes parcel are expected to come forward in October. Commissioners asked about access, nearby rights-of-way, and adjacencies to existing subdivisions; staff noted that one of the parcels does not currently abut Glasgow Street directly and that an unimproved 20-foot right-of-way may be included in the annexation to provide access.
The approvals do not finalize annexation or zoning; rather they authorize the clerk to verify petition sufficiency under the cited statute and return findings to the board. The clerk's investigation will include required exhibits and statutory notice steps before any public hearing is scheduled.
