Tree committee opts against a dedicated Draper Days booth; explores demonstrations and joint city presence

The Draper City Tree Committee debated whether to staff its own booth at Draper Days and ultimately favored not committing to a separate multi-day booth this year unless volunteers could be secured. Members said a full-day booth in prior years drew limited sustained interest and suggested alternatives such as scheduled demonstrations, short tree-planting classes, or sharing a city booth.

Several members argued a dedicated booth risks low engagement among festival attendees; one committee member said that combining city booths or doing a short scheduled presentation would capture more interested residents without the need to staff a full weekend. The group discussed doing a tree-planting demonstration or short educational sessions during Draper Days, and agreed that if the committee wants a standalone booth it needed to decide and order a booth the same day.

Members proposed outreach tactics including prominent signage, social-media posts, and a short video produced by city communications to highlight Arbor Day and committee activities. The committee also discussed school outreach and potential partnerships with teachers and local student groups for future engagement.

The meeting recorded actions to check which city booths will be available for sharing, to coordinate promotion materials with city communications and Draper Forward, and to decide on a final Draper Days participation plan if a partner booth is available. If no partner booth accepts the tree committee, members said they would likely skip Draper Days this year and focus on other outreach such as library 'tree talks' and demonstrations.
