Duchesne County commission accepts Utah Rural County Grant package and approves community committee nominees

Economic Development Director Deborah Herron presented the completed Utah Rural County Grant package and a status report to the Duchesne County Commission on July 28, 2025. Herron outlined four grant priorities with stated allocations: Main Street matching grants ($90,000), Duchesne Chamber of Commerce membership ($12,000), business and community volunteer mentoring ($80,000), and business training and consulting ($18,000).
Following the presentation, Commissioner Jeff Chugg moved to accept the letter to the Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity as presented; Commissioner Tracy Killian seconded. Commissioners Chugg, Killian and Miles voted aye and the motion passed unanimously. Herron said the grant period is complete and she will apply again later in the year.
Also during the meeting, Commission Executive Assistant Melissa Hughes presented a slate of nominees to serve on the Duchesne County Utah250 Community Committee representing Roosevelt, the Upper Community, Duchesne City, Tabiona, Myton and Fruitland. Commissioner Killian made a motion to approve the appointments; Commissioner Chugg seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Herron and Hughes provided project descriptions and measurable outcomes for the grant priorities; the commission approved the acceptance letter and the committee appointments by recorded motions during the meeting.
