Finance Director Butch Watson presented the Town’s financials through August 2025. General Fund revenues were reported at 4.46% of budget year-to-date; Sales Tax and Utilities Franchise Tax collections were reported at 0.00% of budget YTD and Powell Bill revenue at 0.00% YTD. Water & Sewer Fund revenue was presented at 19.98% of budget year-to-date with system development fees at 41.47% of budget. Watson provided line-item highlights in the packet for board review.
Under other business, Assistant Manager Phillip Richardson said the dedicated fund that subsidizes volunteer and retired firefighters’ life insurance had been reduced to a low level and proposed mailing a solicitation letter to residents to raise additional donations; the board agreed to support sending the letter. Richardson also reported aesthetic and acoustic improvements proposed for the rotunda (acoustical ceiling panels) and the board chose a silver color consensus; he will obtain samples for final selection.
Richardson said the Sportsplex gate and pillars are in place and landscaping is the next step. Manager Paul Sabiston said the library project is nearing a temporary certificate of occupancy request from Planning. Regarding the new pickleball courts, Richardson reported they must cure and be sealed for about 30 days; use may be possible as early as December depending on weather.
A motion to adjourn the work session was made by Commissioner Wilma Laney, seconded by Commissioner Elease Goodwin and carried 4-0.
