Council fills advisory and selection panels, and presents water conservation proclamations

The Boca Raton City Council used its April 9 meeting to fill multiple advisory boards, hear brief candidate interviews and present community proclamations.
Mayor Scott Singer and staff presented proclamations declaring May 19–25, 2024 as Florida Water Reuse Week in Boca Raton and April 2024 as Water Conservation Month; Utility Services staff described the Drop Savers poster contest, introduced division‑level student winners and thanked teachers and partners for more than 800 entries.
On appointments, the council interviewed several applicants for the Boca Raton Housing Authority, the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, the Auditor Selection Committee, the Community Advisory Panel, the Environmental Advisory Board and other volunteer boards. Applicants described professional and community backgrounds; Jeremy Montante discussed his work with family self‑sufficiency and Housing Foundation programs and noted concerns about resident relocation in planned repositioning of Dixie Manor.
Council appointed Marie Hester to the Housing Authority and David Abers to the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (four‑year term). For the auditor selection committee, council appointed Sheila Rankin, Nicole Gaspari and Jeffrey Pender as FAB members and named Patricia White to the finance‑experience slot. Patricia Molino and Martin Castellanos were appointed to the Community Advisory Panel; three applicants were appointed to the Environmental Advisory Board and one candidate to the Historic Preservation Board while certain appointments (Marine Advisory Board) were held over for a future meeting.
Council members thanked applicants, highlighted opportunities for volunteer service and encouraged residents to apply for remaining vacancies. No formal objections to the appointments were recorded; motions to appoint passed by voice vote when taken.
The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
