The Aberdeen Town Board voted Dec. 9 to award the base and alternate construction bids for the library project to low bidder DWA Inc., covering the essential interior work and an exterior/parking alternate.
Staff (speaker S2) presented bid results and recommended awarding the base bid of $678,973 and an alternate bid of $23,000 to DWA Inc. Staff said references checked out positively and the alternate work covered exterior repairs including a handicap ramp, sidewalk and parking-lot work.
The board separately approved a motion authorizing town staff to negotiate a contract with DWA Inc., subject to final review and approval by the town attorney, and authorized staff to issue a notice to proceed once contract documents are finalized. A commissioner explained the notice-to-proceed step allows contractor mobilization and marks the start of contractual time limits for completion.
The motions to award the bids and to approve contract negotiation and notice-to-proceed were approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Quote: "The award is to the low bidder DWA Inc.; we did check the references, and they all came back positive and strong," staff said.
What’s next: staff will finalize the contract language with the town attorney and issue a notice to proceed when ready, after which construction mobilization can begin.
