The Bedford Historic District Commission voted to approve a homeowner’s proposal to widen the area along the north side of a garage driveway and construct a roughly 30‑inch high, 35‑foot long dry‑stacked stone retaining wall at 311 Wallace Road.
The motion, read by a commission member and seconded by acting chair Kathleen Bemis, approved the work on the condition that the wall be dry‑stacked (no mortar), that the applicant submit photographs of the completed work for the commission file, and that the project and the remainder of the retaining wall be completed within one year of issuance of the certificate of approval, at which time any existing stockpiles of stone, gravel or other materials must be removed.
Planning staff and commissioners asked the applicant about previously approved work and project timing; the applicant said the southern border wall is complete and that leftover stone from prior projects would be reused to finish the retaining wall. The applicant also said the widened area would be covered with compacted stone rather than new paving.
The commission took the motion and approved it by voice vote. The transcript records a voice vote in favor; individual member roll‑call votes were not recorded in the transcript.
