A town presenter described the guarantee as a certified-check option to cover incomplete items — five-foot sidewalks and street trees in front of each lot on the Aspen Street extension — and said the amount represents 125% of the estimated cost after staff and the public works director verified the numbers. “This is for the Telluride subdivision … it is the Aspen Street extension that was approved back in 2022,” the Presenter said.
Mayor raised design and enforcement concerns, saying vertical (rather than valley) curb/sidewalk profiles are being required to make it harder for drivers to park on sidewalks. “They just pull right up and park on the sidewalk,” the Mayor said, adding that parked vehicles block stroller and wheelchair access and that older neighborhoods where sidewalks meet the road are frequent informal parking spots.
Board members discussed the value of a grass strip where feasible to discourage parking on sidewalks and the tradeoffs of different curb designs. After discussion the Mayor moved to approve Resolution 2508 and the motion was seconded; the board approved the resolution by voice vote with the Mayor noting, “Motion carries.”
The approval accepts the developer’s performance guarantee so the town can ensure completion of sidewalks and street trees; staff will use the verified cost estimate in overseeing the work and any future inspections.
The board moved to the next agenda item after approving the measure.
