Aberdeen schedules Oct. 28 public hearings for two development proposals

Staff asked the board to set a hearing for a rezoning application (transcribed as Z824-O2) submitted by 'Abloud for Humanity' and the North Carolina Sandhills organization, covering two parcels totaling roughly 103.2 acres near US 15501/PD Road. Staff said the planning board heard the request the prior week and made a unanimous recommendation for approval with staff-recommended conditions.
The board also scheduled a public hearing for a map amendment (CZ22-0001) submitted by Fabio Lim Lemus to develop portions of the previously approved planned development on the former Aberdeen Elementary School site along U.S. Highway 1. Staff said the changes requested are substantial enough to require full public hearing and board review rather than a staff-approved modification. Both hearings were scheduled and notices will be sent to affected parties.
The board did not take final action on either application at the work session; public hearings will provide opportunity for public comment and for staff to present specific conditions recommended by the planning board.
