Aberdeen’s board approved a tiered retention bonus program for town employees and authorized reallocating existing salary-savings funds to pay the bonuses. Staff described the tiers as: full‑time employees $2,500; regular part‑time employees working at least 1,000 hours per year $1,002.50; and regular part‑time employees working at least 16 hours per week $800. Staff said the program is funded from salary‑and‑benefit savings accumulated during the year and that recipients must sign a retention agreement with payback provisions if they leave within a specified period.
The board approved previewing the retention-bonus payments to eligible employees as of April 1, 2026 and approved reallocating invested dollars within the town’s budget to cover the payments. A staff member said the town typically recoups some bonus funds through payroll deductions if employees depart early and cited roughly $30,000 per year recovered historically.
Separately, staff updated the board on the budget schedule and an ongoing pay study; staff said department heads will complete draft line items ahead of a budget workshop and that staff expects to present a recommended budget in mid‑May.
Board members also discussed using the approved $29,000 general-fund line item for initial work on Page Memorial Library renovations, including procuring a contractor, removing carpet to reveal potential pine flooring, and addressing possible mid‑century tile or ceiling conditions. Staff and board members suggested visiting the site to assess conditions before proceeding with later phases of furnishing and finishing.
Staff said bonuses would likely be paid in April at a staff event when checks are distributed.
